Demand The Times refers itself for equalities watchdog inquiry

This report, “Unmasked,” chronicles three sensational investigations that exposed scandals and made headlines, written by one of Britain’s best-known journalists – Andrew Norfolk.

There was one problem - each story contained substantial inaccuracies.

It is notable that each of these error-strewn articles all vilify Muslims, and this looks very like a campaign targeted at the Muslim community.

Inaccuracies which have the effect of demonizing Muslims risk fueling prejudice. The Times has never properly been held to account. Enough is enough.

The Times MUST refer itself for an independent inquiry from the equalities watchdog, the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, to consider whether institutional Islamophobia exists at the title.

Write to the editor of The Times today to demand an independent inquiry into Islamophobia.

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />Such an inquiry would serve to rule out the possibility that your company has a cultural problem when it comes to reporting on Muslims.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />To ensure standards are upheld in the future, The Times’ publisher News UK should cease membership of the newspaper association & complaints-handler “IPSO”, and instead join or establish a regulator which is recognised as independent and effective by the Press Recognition Panel.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />You must act to protect the reputation and integrity of the paper, and to prevent these catastrophic lapses in editorial standards from recurring.<br /></span></p>
